What are self-healing cutting mats?
A self-healing cutting mat ensures that cut marks disappear on their own. The surface closes after each cut, keeping the mat flatter and smoother for longer, allowing for more precise cutting. This not only extends the mat’s lifespan but also reduces wear on your tools.
What material are the mats made of?
Our mats are made of flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC) without harmful plasticizers.
How are PVC mats recycled at your company?
PVC is a versatile material that is highly suitable for recycling. Old PVC protective mats can be returned to our address: Industriestraat 9, 2500 Lier. Upon receipt, the mats are cleaned and shredded into small PVC granules. This recycled PVC is then used in the production of new protective mats and a wide range of other products, including water bottles, flower pots, and stadium seats. By using PVC in a circular process, we minimize waste and reduce the demand for new raw materials, resulting in lower CO₂ emissions.
Will my mat be cut to the exact size?
At ProtectMats, we custom-make your mat in the desired thickness, width, and shape. Thanks to our advanced CNC-controlled oscillating blade cutting machines, we cut each mat with the utmost precision, ensuring the final result perfectly matches your application. Please note that PVC is a living material: a minimal variation in length may occur over time due to natural shrinkage.
Are there any harmful plasticizers in your mats?
No, our mats are completely free from harmful plasticizers such as DEHP and DINP. They are safe for humans, animals, and the environment, and contain no hazardous substances. For flexibility, we only use harmless DOTP plasticizers. Our mats meet the strictest standards: they are REACH-compliant (phtalate-free) and tested according to ISO16000-9.
How can I keep my mat clean?
Our mat is easy to clean with a damp cloth and, if needed, a mild, pH-neutral cleaning solution. For stubborn stains, you can try removing them with acetone-free nail polish remover.
Which mat thickness should I choose?
Our mats are available in three thickness options, ensuring you can choose the perfect fit for your application:
3 mm: Ideal for semi-professional use, crafts, and hobby projects. Not recommended for daily cutting.
5 mm: Suitable for professional and intensive use. This thicker mat provides extra protection and stability for your work surface.
7 mm: Designed for (extremely) heavy use in industrial applications. The extra-thick mat is exceptionally durable and offers maximum protection for tables and workbenches.
Which material type should I choose?
Our mats are available in three different finishes, so you can always choose the material that best fits your needs:
Clear
A subtle form of protection that preserves the original look of your furniture while keeping any underlying grids or papers visible.
Antistatic
Designed to reduce static electricity and repel dust, ideal for laboratories and cleanrooms, body shops, and schools where electronic equipment is used.
Frosted
Reduces reflections, making them perfect for light-sensitive workspaces such as those near large windows or under bright lamps. These mats also have low adhesion, allowing stickers, tape, and other adhesives to be removed easily.
Does my mat have a certain smell?
New PVC mats may have a slight, characteristic odor upon delivery. This is normal and usually disappears within a few days after unpacking and airing out. The odor is harmless, and the material is completely safe for use.
Can the size of my mat change over time?
PVC is a living material that can slightly react to temperature and environmental changes. As a result, a minimal change in length may occur over time. This is a normal characteristic of the material and does not affect the quality or functionality of the mat.
Heat and UV light
Our PVC tablecloths are primarily designed for regular indoor use.
Heat
Everyday contact heat – such as from a cup of coffee or a warm plate – is generally no problem. For pans or dishes coming directly from the stove or oven, a trivet is the safest choice.
Sunlight
Normal light through windows has virtually no effect. However, prolonged exposure to direct outdoor sunlight may cause the material to slightly discolor or become a bit firmer over time.
What shapes can I order?
We cut your mat, floor protector or table cover exactly to size. Standard shapes include rectangles, circles, ovals, and ellipses. Have a unique shape—such as a rounded L-shaped table or a playful kidney shape? Email us a DXF file with the exact dimensions, and we’ll cut the tablecloth precisely according to your file.
